Sunroom Q&A

Sunroom price?

Question by my2cents: Sunroom price?
I am thinking about converting my covered porch/patio into a sunroom. I just need windows for two sides as the other two are walls/bricks and it has a roof already. My patio size is 11″x20″ (height 9″). I was quoted $ 14K for a vinyl sunroom and $ 12500 for aluminum. Is this a good price?

Best answer:

Answer by Tony
For an 11×20 patio that does sound pretty good, personally, I would go with the aluminum instead of vinyl, because vinyl gets brittle over time due to exposure.
Before you go ahead with it, I recommend at least one other estimate with the same materials. This way you will have a much better idea of the going rate in your area for that particular application.
Good luck, ;-)

Q&A: Where can I go to find out about what a gazebo canopy can do for me?

Question by : Where can I go to find out about what a gazebo canopy can do for me?
I’m looking for a gazebo canopy, but am having trouble deciding which type to go with. I’m sure there are things I haven’t considered, never owning one before. Where could I go to get good general information about gazebo canopies and what to consider when planning to buy one? Thanks!

There are a lot of sites you can look at which have that sort of information. I like wisegeek.com and some of the larger article repositories like ezinearticles.com or hubpages.com for these sorts of general information topics. I recently ran into a new and smaller site focused on gazebo canopy general information (found it through an article on the aforementioned sites). Seems pretty useful if you want to check it out. You can find the link down in the “sources”. Hope this helps!

Electric, oil filled or fan heater – which is the most economical and practical for a conservatory?

Question by sdubbs: Electric, oil filled or fan heater – which is the most economical and practical for a conservatory?
I moved into a house at the end of last year which has a conservatory, however, with no heating. We have finally go it cleared and want to start using it but it is freezing! Having a look for a portable heater I am not sure which would be the best.
The conservatory is not that big and I think it has a poly carbonate roof.

Fluid Filled are good for constant heat. Ceramics or Convection are also good.
I looked at a nice one from amazon/target that is a center room one, I use it in my garage now.

Question by DIYer: Remodeling my porch to a sunroom, that has a ceiling fan/light with two switches.?
My question is can i wire a ceiling fan/no light, two recessed lights, then an outlet w/o having to run new wiring? My thinking is there is 2 hot wires, black and red, so use the black for the fan, the red for the lights and outlet. Maybe i am way of base so any answers would be great

How to install a SunPorch sunroom?

Question by Leon: How to install a SunPorch sunroom?
I plan to purchase a Sunporch sunroom kit. I got their catalog and it looks pretty straight forward (although the catalog does not have the intallation manual). I’m quite handy and have built a deck or two in my lifetime.

If you have built a Sunporch please let me know how easy or difficult it was and if there is anythign I shoudl be aware of before starting the project. The Web site of the company I plan to buy the kit from is Sunporch.com.

Thanks

Before deciding to build your sunporch, it helps to weigh the pros and cons of building yourself or hiring a contractor to build it for you. If you have no construction experience, or if you aren’t sure how it’s done, then hiring a company in your area to build the sun porch might be your best bet. They know how to make a safe, energy-efficient, durable sun porch that will last for decades, which will safe money later when you might have had to make repairs. You might also want to purchase a sun porch kit, which comes to you in its entirety, with full instructions on how to install.

What is a good replacement for Starbucks Gazebo Blend?

Question by Bryan B: What is a good replacement for Starbucks Gazebo Blend?
As you may know, Gazebo Blend is only available in the summer. It is my absolute favorite coffee, so the lack of availabilty sucks. If anyone knows a similar coffee, will you please let me know? Thank you!!
Just thought you should know I use it for hot brewed coffee only.

Best answer:

Answer by pikachu is love.
Since it was sorta citrusy, go with Ethiopian Sidamo or Kenya. Kenya is the bolder of those two, and both of those are nice, citrusy, and floral.
If you were using the Gazebo for iced coffee, I wouldn’t recommend either of the above ones. Go with Terraza.
good luck!

What is the best type of heating for a sunroom?

Question by John W: What is the best type of heating for a sunroom?
I have a 14 X 17′ sunroom which is all glass, except for 1 wall which has a window. The ceiling is 6 ” foam except for 2 sky-lights which are 16X 16 “. I have insulated glass.

A friend of mine has a sunroom like you are describing they got an electric heat AND a/c installed in the room. It was cut into the wall with the 1 window. It looks like a baseboard heater with dial settings..Kinda like you would see in a hotel. I thought it would look weird and out of place but, it looks really nice.. I think it was under $ 600 to install… Call your local heating/ and A/C installer for estimates..

Good luck

Q&A: What art colleges lean towards conservatories, or vice versa?

Question by Derek F: What art colleges lean towards conservatories, or vice versa?
I am a musician who wants to major in music theory. All the conservatories ask for talent performers, which I am not. I am a good composer and would love to have a career in theory (like a teacher). Of the art colleges I have looked at, some lack the music oreintated edge conservatories have.
By art college, I mean liberal art college.

Try an education school that also has a strong music program. I know that finding out which schools have strong music programs can be difficult, but peruse their sites, and, even if you don’t know the band director at your school very well, ask him or her about it, or just ask some other people in your school who are involved in the music department and who might be thinking about majoring in music. I don’t know what area of the country you’re from, but Miami University in Ohio is good, as well as Wright State. If you’re really good, consider looking in Texas or at the University of Michigan. There’s always Bowling Green or Ohio University as well.
